Account & Settings

Manage your profile, subscription, and preferences

Accessing Settings

Click your profile icon at the bottom of the sidebar, then select "Account Settings." Settings are organized into six tabs: Account, Privacy, Billing, Usage, Notifications, and Appearance.

Account

Update your profile photo, personal info, and agency details. Changes auto-save when you leave the page.

Profile Photo

Click your photo to upload a new one (JPEG, PNG, or WebP, up to 5 MB). Hover over an uploaded photo and click the X to remove it.

Display Name & Email

Click the edit button next to your name and email. Email changes require verification—check your new inbox for a confirmation link, then log out and back in. If you sign in with Google, your email is managed through your Google account.

Address Preference

Choose how LawCite addresses you: first name, rank only, rank + last name, or surprise me.

State & Federal Circuit

Your default jurisdiction for scenario analyses. Selecting a state auto-sets the matching federal circuit, but you can override the circuit if needed.

Rank/Title, Unit/Division, Agency

Your position and department info. Used for personalization.

Privacy

Manage your sessions, search data, and account access.

Active Sessions

See where you're currently logged in—device, location, and when each session was last active. If you use a VPN, locations may not match your actual location.

Clear Search History

Permanently delete all saved searches and their associated analyses, cases, and follow-ups. This cannot be undone.

Export My Data

Download all your analyses as PDFs in a ZIP file.

Log Out All Devices

Signs you out of every active session. You'll need to log in again on all devices.

Billing

View your current plan, update your payment method, and access invoices.

What You'll See

Current plan:Your subscription tier and billing interval
Renewal date:When your next payment will be charged
Payment method:Card on file with last 4 digits and expiration
Billing history:Past invoices with dates, amounts, and links to view each one

Managing Your Subscription

Click "Change Plan" to upgrade, downgrade, or cancel. If you've already canceled, the button changes to "Resubscribe." Downgrades take effect at your next billing date—you keep your current tier until then.

Cancellation

If you cancel, you keep access until the end of your current billing period. A banner shows when access expires. Your search history is preserved if you resubscribe later.

Delete Account

At the bottom of the Billing tab, you can permanently delete your account. This cancels your subscription and erases all data. You'll be asked to confirm before anything happens.

This Cannot Be Undone

Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. All search history, profile data, and subscription information will be erased immediately.

Usage

Track how much of your allocation you've used and manage extra usage settings. For more detail on how usage works, see Usage & Credits.

Usage Progress Bar

Shows how much of your current allocation you've used, with your reset date.

Extra Usage (Paid Tiers)

Enable extra usage to keep going after your allocation runs out. You can add balance manually ($1 minimum), set a monthly spend cap, and configure auto-reload to top up automatically when your balance gets low.

Notifications

Control which emails you receive from LawCite.

Product Updates:New features, improvements, and platform updates
Case Law Digest:Relevant case law updates in your jurisdiction
Billing Alerts:Payment confirmations, renewal reminders, and billing issues
Tips & Best Practices:Occasional tips for getting the most out of LawCite
Activity Reminders:Gentle reminders if you haven't used LawCite in a while

Each can be toggled individually, or use "Unsubscribe from All" at the bottom to opt out of everything.

Appearance

Choose between Light, Dark, or System theme. Your choice applies immediately and syncs across devices.

Sessions

Sessions last 16 hours, designed for long shifts. Your session refreshes automatically while you're actively using the app, so you won't be interrupted during research. After 16 hours of inactivity, you'll be logged out.
